Firearm Mounted Lights
Nebo iProTec HP190 High-Powered Firearm Light
If you’re looking for a good, entry-level rail mounted light, look no further. The NEBO Iprotec Elite HP190 is a great starter light. It is a 190 lumen LED rail mounted tactical light. It is powered by a CR123A battery that is included with purchase. That will power it for one hour of continuous run time. It also comes standard with a strobe mode. It has a toggle switch that turns it on and switches it between the two modes. It is constructed out of anodized aircraft-grade aluminum. It is shock and water-resistant. It only weighs .2 pounds, so it will not add much weight to the firearm. It can be purchased on Amazon for under $50.
The NEBO Iprotec Elite HP 190 is a fine intro rail mounted light. It is more than bright enough to get the job done. It does have a couple downfalls though. The switch is not ambidextrous so you will either have to use your thumb or your index finger. The strobe mode is also kind of a pain in the rear. Once you hit the toggle switch to turn it on, if you turn it off you have to wait 4 seconds before you turn it back on or the strobe engages. This can prove difficult if you’re trying to use it to “paint the room.” However, it is very sturdy. It will hold up to almost any abuse you put it through and at about 40 bucks, it’s worlds cheaper than most other rail mounted lights.
Streamlight TLR-1 HL High Lumen Rail-Mounted Tactical Light
The Streamlight TLR-1 is a fantastic rail mounted light. It packs a 300 lumens LED bulb with a 2.5-hour continuous run time. The TLR-1 is run off of two 3-volt CR123 lithium batteries with 10-year storage life. The light mounts to any Glock or Glock type railing system and also includes keys for Picatinny, Beretta 90two, S&W 99 and S&W TSW. It, like most Streamlight products, is constructed of reliable machined aluminum. It is shock resistant and water resistant up to one meter. It weighs in at 4.18 ounces and fits most light bearing holsters. It easily attaches and detaches from the rail mount. A great buy for anyone who will be doing any low light shooting. It can be purchased on Amazon for under $125.
I love this light. I have one mounted on my Glock 17 and use it daily. It is incredibly bright and very easy to use. It has an ambidextrous switch that is right next to the trigger guard. It can be used with the index finger of the shooting hand or the thumb of the support hand. For a few dollars more you can upgrade to the TLR-1s, which has a strobe mode. That comes in handy if you use it for any kind of building clearing. It’s not rechargeable so that is a bummer but the lithium batteries last forever so you very seldom have to change them. It can also be mounted on a rifle so it doesn’t hurt if you buy two. Another great product from Streamlight!
Streamlight Stinger Rechargeable LED Flashlight
The Stinger packs a 350 Lumens punch and a weight of 12.8 ounces. It has a two-hour run time while on the 350 level (7-hour runtime at the 85 level). It comes with two lithium ion batteries. A great factor about this light it that it comes with a piggyback charger. That means that you can charge your flashlight and the backup battery at the same time. It is a serious time saver since you get twice the runtime from the same charge. The charger plugs into a standard 12V outlet and even comes with a car charger compatible plug. It also has mounting screws so you can mount the charger in a vehicle if you want. At a length of 8.85 inches, it’s a bit longer than some of the featherweights. Even so it takes up minimal room on a belt or in a bag. The Stringer is made out of machined aluminum and is water and shock resistant. It comes with a plastic anti-roll ring that can be placed around the head of the light. It has three levels of brightness and a strobe mode. It can be found on Amazon for under $150.
The Stinger is a fantastic light! The LED light is extremely bright and that charge lasts for days with sporadic use. Even better is you have a backup battery once the first one runs out. The DS model comes with dual switch technology. It has a tail cap switch and one on the head. This is very convenient when using it in a low light shoot situation. It’s longer and heavier than the lightweight models listed on the site, but that is a minor detail. You can still stash it in your bag with little space taken. If you want to place it on your belt the weight is barely noticeable. It’s super durable, it will stand up against the elements and all the wear and tear you can give it. Even if you do find a way to break it, it comes with a lifetime warranty. Great light for a good price.
Streamlight Strion Rechargeable LED Flashlight
The Streamlight Strion LED HL is a top of the line tactical light. With 500 Lumens it will light up the largest of rooms and at a weight of 5.2 ounces it’s in the featherweight class of the light world. The Strion LED HL offers a runtime of one hour at the 500 Lumen level. 3.5 hours at the low (125 Lumens) end of the spectrum. It contains a rechargeable lithium Ion battery and comes standard with a charger that plugs into a standard 12V outlet. It has a length of 5.9 Inches, which makes it easy to attach to a belt of place in a pocket. Made out of machined aluminum its water and shock resistant. It has an edged rim near the lens so that it can be placed on a flat surface and will stay put. It has three levels of brightness and strobe mode. It can be found on Amazon for under $200.
The Strion is a fantastic little light. It’s super bright for its size and lightweight. Most of your Law Enforcement agencies across the country are switching to this light or one similar. The old school mag lights are thing of the past. LED is the future. Its small size makes it easy to carry on your person or can be placed in your range bag without using much room. It has a little over an hour runtime on high, which is more than enough but if you do run out it recharges fully in about 2 ½ to 3 hours. Some of the downfalls are that it only has a tail cap button and that it can sometimes be two small. For a bigger guy if you try and hold it under your arm while you’re using both hands it will get covered up or fall out. All in all, it’s a great light. Very durable, lightweight and easy to carry.
